The strike which is continuing on Saturday has left commuters stranded, many of whom had to shell out hundreds of rupees to travel by taxis.

Mumbai: Over 45 lakh Mumbaikars who travel by the 3000 Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport (BEST) undertaking buses regularly have been hard hit as BEST employees went on an indefinate strike on Friday.

The strike which is continuing on Saturday has left commuters stranded. Many people have had to shell out hundreds of rupees to travel by auto-rickshaws and taxis.

There has been complete chaos and confusion on the roads since Friday, which are choking under the weight of too many cars.

BEST employees are demanding a pay revision. The talks with the management have been inconclusive as the employees are firm on their demands.

The industrial court has declared the strike illegal and BEST has said that it will take disciplinary action against employees participating in the stir.

Despite this the stir is continuing.

The strike was called as BEST had decided to block the dearness allowance of employees from Friday.

The company was also contemplating stopping interim relief recommended by the pay revision committee.
