New Delhi: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who was detained during a protest march to Parliament, was on Tuesday released from Parliament Street Police station.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader was leading a protest march from Jantar Mantar to Parliament against the Centre's demonetisation scheme.
"Sisodia has been detained along with some AAP leaders and supporters," Deputy Commissioner of Police Jatin Narwal said.
आपकी हरकतों की वजह से देश के लोग मर रहे हैं, गरीब आदमी की रोज़ी रोटी पर लात मारकर आप खुद को किस मुँह से देशभक्त कहते हो मोदी जी! 5/N— Manish Sisodia (@msisodia) November 22, 2016
AAP had chalked out its strategy to march to Parliament and 'gherao' it under Sisodia's leadership.
While inaugurating the Delhi Pavilion at the 36th India International Trade Fair (IITF) at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi on Monday, Sisodia criticised the central government for demonetisaion of higher currency notes and asked how trade would go on without any cash.
Highlighting the plight of the traders, Sisodia said that common people, especially traders, are facing trouble due to the move and they will not be able to do business as long as the cash crisi exists.
Upping the ante against demonetisation, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Mnday exhorted people to "change" the Prime Minister instead of defunct notes, saying those supporting the exercise were against the country, even as AAP announced a march to Parliament on Tuesday.
Kerjriwal had earlier set a three-day deadline to the Centre demanding that demonetisation, "a massive scam", be rolled back. He will also address rallies in Varanasi, Meerut and Lucknow next month to corner the government on the issue. The deadline expired on November 20.
AAP says the demonetisation drive, which was announced by the Narendra Modi-led NDA government on November 8, is in reality will help corporate houses and not unearth black money.
