Delhi hit-and-run case: Juvenile sent to two-day police custody

The minor boy, who had allegedly run over a 32-year-old man with his father's Mercedes in north Delhi's civil lines area, was on Monday was sent to two days of police custody.

This is the first time, the juvenile will be subject to custodial interrogation. The accused, who was underage during the time of the accident, drove his father's Mercedes into a man who died instantly.

According to sources, police want to quiz juvenile accused's friends as well who were allegedly in the car at the time of incident. It is also learnt that they want to quiz friends about the sequence of events.

His father was arrested and let out on bail on Sunday. The juvenile was held under charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and sent to juvenile justice home on Sunday.

As per the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) order, a social welfare officer will be present 24*7 with police during the course of interrogation. The Welfare officer is appointed by JJB.

In 2015, the teenager had been fined thrice - twice for over-speeding and once for parking wrongly. The police said this was why he was accused of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. "The charge, cognizable and non-bailable, was slapped," Madhur Verma, a senior police officer of the North district said.
