CHENNAI: Sleuths of the DVAC caught a Deputy Tahsildar red-handed taking a bribe of `3,000 at the Poonamallee Tahsildar’s office on Tuesday.Police said, Chandrababu of Porur, employed with an engineering company in Manapakkam, had bought three grounds of land at Sennirkuppam. When he tried to get a patta at the tahsildar office’s on May 25, Deputy Tahsildar, Meenakshi, reportedly sat on it. Later, when he approached her in this regard, she allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 4,000. After much negotiation, it was brought down to Rs 3,000, said sources. Chandrababu then lodged a complaint with the DVAC. A team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Thirunavukarasu, caught the Deputy Tahsildar accepting the bribe. The police also raided Meenakshi’s house at Sennirkuppam. She was later remanded in judicial custody.
