Mumbai: Indian disc jockey Aqeel, who had been detained at the Dubai Airport on Tuesday for allegedly possessing a banned drug, was let off on Wednesday after authorities failed to find any trace of the drug in tests conducted on him.
Aqeel's wife Farah Khan Ali, who is Bollywood actor Sanjay Khan's daughter, had alleged on Wednesday that he was falsely framed. Dubai authorities found in his bag 0.4 grams of Ecstasy, a party drug.
Farah said Aqeel did not use drugs and alleged that 'somebody must have planted' the contraband in his bag. "I'm sure someone planted the drugs and then called police," Farah said.
The DJ was produced in a Dubai court which granted bail to him on Wednesday as no trace of the drug was found in the blood and urine samples, his lawyer said.
"Aqeel was detained by the Dubai authorities after 0.4 gram of Ecstasy was found in his bag," said Aqeel's lawyer Ashish Mehta was quoted as saying.
The DJ had gone to Dubai for a programme at a discotheque. Aqeel, once a regular at Enigma nightclub at the JW Marriott hotel in suburban Mumbai's Juhu, shot into fame with his music remixes, his latest hit being from Shah Rukh Khan-starrer 'Don'.
