CHENNAI: DMK treasurer MK Stalin has been conferred the title of ‘Kentucky Colonel’ by the Governor of Kentucky. According to a release from the party, the award was in recognition of his service to society and social justice.‘Kentucky Colonel’ is the highest title awarded by the state of Kentucky. It has been handed out from 1812, at the sole discretion of the Governor of the state, for service to a community, state or nation. The news of the conferment by Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear was communicated to Stalin through an e-mail from Beshear’s aide-de-camp George Reef, which praised Stalin’s social service, efforts at women’s empowerment and social justice. The e-mail also noted that Stalin was the first politician from Tamil Nadu to be honoured with the title.
