Dowry: Newly married woman kills self

BANGALORE: Dejected over dowry harassment, a newly married woman ended her life by setting herself ablaze. The incident was reported in Lakshmidevi Layout in Electronics City police limits, on Wednesday.The deceased has been identified as Vanita (24) from Andhra Pradesh. She was married to Chinnappa three months ago. Chinnappa is a labourer in a garment factory.According to the police, Chinnappa and his mother allegedly harassed Vanita to bring dowry from her parents' home. On Wednesday morning, when Vanita told Chinnappa that she wants to go to her parents' home, he allegedly picked up a quarrel with her. Dejected over the verbal spat, Vanita set herself on fire when Chinnappa left for work and her mother-in-law had gone out.Though she was rushed to hospital, she succumbed to burn injuries, the police explained.Vanita's parents have filed a death due to dowry harassment case in Electronics City police station and further investigations are on.
