New Delhi: Expelled Commonwealth Games official Jayachandran has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday.
Jayachandran, who was the treasurer and officer on special duty for revenue and sponsorship, is third official after TS Darbari and Sanjay Mohindroo to be sacked from Commonwealth Games Organising Committee.
He was expelled from the Games Organising Committee on charges of irregularities in Queen's Baton Relay in London.
Jayachandran had reportedly approved funds to a little known firm AM Films.
Darbari and Mahindroo have already been questioned by the ED in connection with the charges of financial irregularities in awarding a contract to AM Films for putting up video screens during Queen's baton Relay in London.
Darbari told the ED interrogators on Monday that he had no role in anything to do with charges of financial irregularities during the QBR in London in October last year.
In his defence, he cited a report of the Organising Committee for evaluation of bids which gave the final go ahead for the deal with AM Films. The decision was signed by three members of the committee Mohindroo, Jayachandran and Sudhir Verma, not by Darbari.
But CNN-IBN has a copy of an email sent by one of the organisers of the QBR in London Tim Collet marked to Darbari as well as Sanjay Mohindroo, asking for full payment of 127,712 pounds to be made to AM Films in advance if the event has to be conducted at all.
Not just that, CNN IBN also has a copy of a letter written by Darbari himself on October 16, 2009, stating that the Tourism ministry had refused to foot the bill of Rs 2 crore for putting up giant video screens during the QBR. He even says that alternate methods must be found to foot the bill by the DG Finance.
