BANGALORE: Scholarships were distributed to 2,400 underprivileged Muslim girl students on Tuesday afternoon. The 37th annual scholarship program conducted by Bazm-e-Niswan who distributed these scholarships to meritorious students of pre-university, degree and master degree courses. Speaking on the ocassion, Ajay Kumar Singh, ex DGP&IGP said, “Education should not be narrow minded, education mein nayi hawaa aani chaiheye (there should be new dimensions to education).”As he advised the students to pick up new habits in education. He also laid emphasis on the importance of education, and the family of a student should encourgae the same.While on the other hand Zameer Pasha, principal secretary, Minorities Department, spoke on how the drop out rate has increased among boys in the state. “There are drop outs from standard seven onwards, attention should be paid to boys' education also,” he said. Girls have far surpassed boys in the state.Pasha spoke on how students should try and avail benefits of all schemes that are being offered by the Karnataka State Minorities Commission. Students should apply for the scholarships at the approriate given time, to try and avoid delays. This year the department has given me 400 crores to be spent, and there are 20,000 students who have applied for different scholarships. He requested and appealed to more students to apply for scholarships and avail all the benefits. Over 30,000 girls have benefited from the Bazm-E-Niswan scholarships since 1974, some of the students qualified as doctors, engineers and graduates in different fields, said Husna Ziaulla Sherif, president BAZM-E-Niswan.Students who were awarded this scholarship were happy with the scholarships given to them by this organisation. Tasmia Don Bosco College, 2nd year BE said, “I come from an underprivileged family, and my education required help. This sum of `6,000 scholarship does help me in my education.” She was awarded this scholarship second time in a row. Similar thoughts were echoed by Humera Khanoon pursuing her MMBS, “My father is a tailor, and an education in MBBS is expensive. This amount will helps me books for my MBBS, as they are expensive.”
