Baden Baden, Germany: Coach Sven-Goran Eriksson says he wants the English team to be able to enjoy their privacy during the World Cup.
Eriksson inspected England’s World Cup base on March 15, emphasizing that his squad needed a high quality but private place. "We have a lot of fans, a lot of press around us. I think we have to have a private place, because any other way it will be chaos, it will be chaotic, so that’s important. Then of course, the standard of the hotel is very important, that we have the spa possibilities, I mean not the spa but the gym for recovering. This place has a medical centre that I suppose is one of the best in Europe, which hopefully we will not use that much, but you never know. So it is very, very good. The training pitch of course, is not too far away, which is very important. The airport is rather close so we do not need to travel one or two hours every time we need to fly. It’s a lot of things. That is why we chose this place."
According to the hotel’s management, certain rooms will have to be changed in order to accommodate the England squad’s wishes need, including the spa facilities, a gym and massage room. "We shall have to change things a lot before they arrive, for example the Adenauer room will become a games room, the Japan suite will become a massage room. We haven't finished our discussions yet, we are still inquiring as to what sort of requests they might have and, as we do everyday, we shall cater to our guests needs."
Sven-Goran Eriksson's England team will be based at "Buehlerhoehe" on the outskirts of the German spa town Baden-Baden during the World Cup. The hotel, which is known for its fantastic view, spa and gym facilities as well as its excellent food, will be the exclusive home for England's players throughout the tournament.
It is situated in one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Black Forest, and is used to having important guests, Nelson Mandela and Bill Clinton have stayed, and Boris Becker got married there.
Eriksson overlooked the facilities carefully; he is concerned about the fitness of three of his key players ahead of the World Cup finals. Arsenal defenders Sol Campbell and Ashley Cole, along with Newcastle United striker Michael Owen, are all certainties to go to Germany if fit, but none are currently available. The squad will arrive at the luxury hotel on June 5.
