CHENNAI: A former councillor of the City Corporation was among three persons who were arrested by the police on Monday for allegedly forging documents and claiming ownership of land owned by the Railway Police, at Perambur. As per a release from the Central Crime Branch (CCB), the fraud pertained to a two-ground plot of land worth Rs 2 crore. Thirty-years ago, there was a police housing colony on the property. But with the passage of time, the houses became dilapidated. The land came to the notice of former councillor Rajendran (57) of Perambur, who allegedly prepared fake papers to show that the property belonged to his great grandfather. He further claimed that he and his brother Govindarajan (54), later inherited the property. The duo divided the property between themselves and got it registered at the registrar’s office in Purasawalkam.Rajendran then allegedly constructed shops on his share of the property and rented them out. He thus earned around Rs 60,000 per month in the process. When Railway Inspector Santiago came to know of this, he filed a complaint with the Commissioner of Police, who directed the CCB to probe the case. The investigating team, led by ACP J Chandrasekharan, also found that a third party, Prabhu (28) of Permabur had constructed a shop on the disputed land and rented it out. All three were arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
