KOTTAYAM: Success is not always what you see, and this applies to Rinu who bagged A+ in all the subjects in the higher secondary examination. You cannot call it luck, but only sheer hard-work and determination to face the examination, that too after a fire at her house burnt down her books two days before the examination. Along with the help and support from Rinu’s friends and teachers at Mount Carmel Higher Secondary School she was able to push ahead through it.“My mind went blank when I came to know that all my books were charred in the freak accident. I called up my Mathematics teacher and one of my friends to inform them about the incident,” said Rinu. “The next day, my teachers visited my house to instil confidence in me and gave me all the textbooks. I am also grateful to my friends who gave me copies of all the notes, that too without taking any money from me,” she added.Fighting the odds is nothing new for Rinu. Her father, Reji Varghese, is a driver, mother Silvy is a home maker and sister Rinsu is an SSLC student. Her father had to sell his autorickshaw to pay the debts. The family has been living in a rented house at Kollad for the past nine years. When the result was declared, Rinu was surprised having scored an A+ in every subject. She scored 96 per cent with full marks in Chemistry and Hindi. Rinu, who aspires to be a doctor, is now awaiting the State Medical Entrance Examination result. She says her ultimate dream is to become an IAS officer.
