HYDERABAD: With cable-laying works taken up by AP Transco on the stretch from SP Road to Shyamlal, commuters are having a harrowing time for about a month. What will come as a relief to them is that the works are likely to be completed by Sunday. The dug-up roads and cloud of dust has hampered smooth flow of traffic.“The road-digging causes at least 15-20 minute block during the morning rush hour and being stranded in the dust is an added problem,” said an exasperated Sharada, who commutes to work everyday along the stretch. “It is a problem alighting from the bus due to the rubble piled up near the bus stand,” complained Prakashnagar resident P Mridula. A 132 KV cable being laid on the 550-m stretch should have ideally taken 15 days but given the rocky nature of the soil, the work has taken close to a month. “The presence of rocks for 250-300 m has caused the delay. The work should be completed by Sunday,” said D Rakesh, assistant engineer, AP Transco. While the work got delayed, the traffic on the busy stretch has been thrown out of gear. There is an inevitable logjam during peak hours. Even push-cart vendors along the stretch have shifted their wares to the Prakashnagar bus-stop and adjacent areas, as deep trenches are a hindrance to their business. On being asked about the traffic management system, inspector (Traffic) Begumpet, KV Ramnarsimhareddy said, “The work has been undertaken by government and is high on our priority list. We have provided five mobile vehicles, three sub-inspectors and one inspector to man the stretch and prevent any untoward incident. Hopefully, the work will end over the weekend.”
