Mumbai: What is similar between Rhett McLaughlin-Link Neal’s music video ‘T-shirt War’ and the song ‘Freak Out’ from ‘Love Ka The End’? Both have used the stop-motion animation technique that makes a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own.

‘Love Ka The End’ is produced by Y-Films and ‘Freak Out’ is the first full-fledged song to use the technique in a Bollywood film.

‘Freak Out’ may look similar to ‘T-shirt Wars’ but the makers say it cannot be called a clone.

"Stop-motion is a technique and techniques are not copyrighted. Otherwise by that logic, all animation would be a copy," Ashish Patil, head of Y-Films, told IANS.

"‘Freak out’ is different from ‘T-shirt Wars’ in several respects - it is more than twice as long (2.5 minutes versus 30 seconds), it features 10 characters versus two, it is cut to music and lyrics and a full fledged song versus a simple tune, it has interaction of props and a background versus a basic green screen, the actors - characters interact with each other and also the T-shirts versus T-shirt wars, and it uses 458 T-shirts versus 222 in T-shirt wars," Ashish Patil, head of Y-Films, told IANS.

‘It’s never been done before for a full length song in a Hindi feature film. So this is the first one. This song takes an existing technique and takes it to the next level,’ he added.

The video of ‘Freak out’ has been executed by Invisible Rabbit run by directors Nupur Bhargava and Hitesh Kewalya..

‘Love Ka The End’, releasing May 6, is a romantic comedy starring Shakti Kapoor’s daughter Shraddha Kapoor. The movie is the first release of Y-Films, a youth wing of the Yash raj Films.
