New Delhi: The Sarvattom Jeevan Raksha Padak award 2009 is being conferred upon Jammu braveheart Rukhsana. The award carries a monetary allowance of Rs 75,000.
Jeevan Raskha awards are an offshoot of Ashoka Chakra series of gallantary awards instituted in 1961.
Rukhsana is recognised for single-handedly killing a top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant in Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir on September 27, 2009.
She killed LeT commander Abu Osama, injured an LeT member as well as Osama's younger brother Aijaz, in her house.
Mumbai's Taj Hotel manager, Karambir Singh Kang - who saved several lives even though he lost his whole family in the 26/11 attacks at the hotel - will be awarded the Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak.
Meanwhile, Taj chef Boris Mario Do Rego will be honoured with the Jeevan Raksha Padak award posthumously.
The Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak carries a cash award of Rs 45,000 while the Jeevan Raksha Padak carries a cash prize of Rs 30,000.
Other than the one time cash prize, the awards don't come with any railway or airway concessions for the families of those awarded.
