Hyderabad: Garbage continued to pile up in parts of Hyderabad amid an ongoing strike by municipal corporation workers. Over 25,000 workers of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation are on strike since the past four days.
The municipal workers and water supply department employees across the state are demanding hike in the minimum wages. Meanwhile, residents are bearing the brunt of the situation as roads and streets are littered with garbage overflowing dustbins causing stench in the residential colonies.
"There is traffic jam due to garbage, and the smell is intolerable and its difficult to live in Hyderabad now," said a resident.
"There is garbage everywhere now, on streets and around the city. Why can't the CM solve the issue of the workers," added another resident.
The situation is no different in the other major cities and towns of Telangana state. The garbage that has spilled out on the roads and footpaths is not only an obstacle for passerbys but poses a serious risk to people's health. With the monsoon around the corner, the situation is expected to get worse.
