Get set to cope with CoP!

Commuters in the city, especially those who travel to Hitech city everyday, are in for a tough time from October 1 to 19, the duration of the bio-diversity conference. Traffic on the route leading to Hitex, the venue of the conference, will be diverted for obvious reasons. “There are just a few roads that lead to Hitech city.

 Out of them, road no 36 is the main route, and we will use it only for delegates,” said CV Anand, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) adding, “definitely, there will be a lot of IT crowd going the same way.

 So, depending on the traffic conditions, we will take decisions.” Road no. 2 and 36 are the two main roads that lead to the bio-diversity conference, which leaves road no. 10 and 45 as alternate routes to travel to Hitech city.

 In order to ensure smooth traffic flow, the Traffic Police will conduct an awareness campaign in the twin cities at least a fortnight before the conference begins on Oct 1.

 “We will conduct an awareness campaign 10-15 days before CoP 11 begins to educate the public to use other routes, to avoid traffic congestion on roads which will be used by vehicles heading towards CoP 11,” said Anand.

 The Traffic Police may have their hands full for the entire duration of CoP 11 as some of the 20 most accident-prone routes fall in corridors that delegates attending the conference may use.

 The KBR Park, Jubilee Hills check post, road no 12, NFCL Junction, Langer Houz, and Toli Chowki are some of the most dangerous areas for motorists, as they have have been in the list for the last three years.

 The stretch from Langer Houz to Golconda is the most accident prone area in Hyderabad.

 The road which is marked between corridors 15 and 16, has so far witnessed 41 accidents this year (till August 2012). The route which leads to one of the city’s must see sites, Golconda Fort, also leads to Gachibowli and Hitech city.

 The NFCL junct ion (Panjagutta) to KBR Park has been marked as the second most accident prone point this year, as 30 accidents have taken place on that stretch. NCFL junction is listed in corridors 1, 2 and 5, which go to Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in Mehdipatnam, and Sangeet junction in Secunderabad via SP road.

 NCFL junction is a vital road, as it goes towards Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills. Anand said more number of traffic and law & order personnel will be deployed on the Langer Houz route to curb rash driving and manage traffic flow.

 “We will increase enforcement. There will be a very tight check on autos, and buses will also be regulated.We will clamp down on any sort of rash driving.”
