Kanpur: A 15-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by setting herself on fire after she was molested by her neighbour in Rura area of Kanpur Dehat district, police said.
The family of the girl has alleged 20-year-old Kamlesh, who also belongs to the same area, of molesting the minor of few occasions.
According to the complaint, the girl was under depression for some time and annoyed over the molestation by Kamlesh, she took the extreme step.
Following the complaint, Kamlesh has been arrested and a case on charges of abetment of suicide and other offences registered against him, ASP Kanpur Dehat RK Yadav said.
The police officer, however, said initial investigations suggest that the girl and Kamlesh had a love affair but the family members of the minor were against the marriage.
Meanwhile, in another incident a pregnant woman was killed due to the injuries suffered in a brick-batting between two groups in Kakarihiya village of the district last evening.
Radha (25) had a verbal dispute with a neighbour, which led to a clash and brick-batting between the two families.
In the incident, she was injured in a stomach region.
The family members rushed her to a hospital, where she expired during the treatment.
On the complaint made by her family, police registered a case against Rajesh, his wife Reshma and sister-in-law Urmila.
Efforts are on to arrest the three accused, who are absconding after the incident, the police officer said.
