New Delhi: After the arrest of a youth for allegedly distributing pornographic MMS clips and CDs of a local girl in Srinagar in Uttarkhand, the police on Monday staged a protest against the incident in hill town.
They staged flag marches amid protests and shutdown colleges and shops in Srinagar after the girl alleged that she was raped by the youth, Faisal.
Faisal, who was arrested on Sunday following protests by local people alleging police inaction in this regard, is in jail.
Meanwhile, the police are waiting for the report of the medical examination of the girl who hails from Khirsu area of Pauri district.
A police official was quoted by new agency PTI as saying that the girl had told them she had gone to the shop of Faisal to get her mobile phone repaired, but the youth invited her to his home where he allegedly raped her and shot the porn CD and MMS.
He added that Faisal later distributed the CD and MMS in this town and neighbouring areas.
As the news spread, angry protestors, including students, took to the streets and forced the shutting down of H N Bahuguna University and shops.
Slogan-shouting activists of the Hindu Jagran Manch demanded immediate banning of the CD and MMS.
Police used batons to disperse angry groups of people protestors.
Senior officials said the situation was tense but under control and adequate forces were deployed in sensitive areas with the police conducting flag marches in various places.
On Sunday, the protestors also blocked the national highway to Badrinath for nearly four hours, police said.
