CHENNAI: Girls of the Chennai region outshone their male counterparts in the Class XII exams of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). While 92.67 per cent girls clearing the exams, only 88 per cent boys passed. The trend of girls outscoring boys has stood true, with the CBSE Class X results also showing a similar pattern.In Tamil Nadu, the Class XII State Board results too were along the same lines, with 89.7 per cent of girls passing, compared to 83.2 per cent boys. While the overall pass percentage in State Board was 86.7 per cent, the 7,809 CBSE students in the State posted an impressive 95.97 pass percentage.In the Chennai region students have posted an overall pass percentage of 90.59. A total of 67,707 students appeared for the exam, and 61,339 of them passed. The region covers the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Daman and Diu, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Maharashtra, Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu. Among the States, Karnataka topped the list with a pass percentage of 96.46, followed by Tamil Nadu. The overall pass percentage in the region has decreased marginally, since last year it stood at 91.32 per cent. D T Sudharsan Rao, regional officer of CBSE in Chennai said that this might be due to the higher number of students writing the exams this year.While the Chennai region topper is from Kerala, with a score of 493 out of 500, Sanjay Ganapathy Subramaniam, a student of Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram, Chennai, was placed second with a score of 490. Sanjay scored 100 per cent in both physics and mathematics.
