CHENNAI: As the Joy of Giving week draws to a close, yet another act of ‘giving’ to children has been witnessed in the city.Staff of Isha Homes Pvt Limited, Besant Nagar, have adopted six schools in Chennai, of which three are Corporation schools. With their own resources, they have provided the schools, better infrastructure. They have given a whole new look to these schools which lacked basic infrastructure such as furniture, toilets, walk area and hygienic conditions. Voluntarily dividing themselves into five teams of 25 members each, they undertook works such as replacing broken toilet doors and fittings, cleaning up the compound, painting walls, installing green boards, building the walk area with pebbles and hand railings, besides other masonry work.The ambience now is not just aesthetic, but is also one that can ensure safety and hygiene in the everyday activities of the students, paving way for a better atmosphere to study in. The schools adopted are the Chennai High School and Chennai Middle School in Adyar, the Spastics Society of Tamil Nadu, Taramani, Magalir Mandram School, Sastri Nagar, and the Rasa Special School for Physically-Challenged in Mylapore and Thiruvanmiyur. Simultaneously, 50 youth have been selected for skill development training. These underprivileged youth will be given training in plumbing, masonry and painting, making them employable, and could even be absorbed into the organisation.Once the schools reopen, the company plans to organise a fun-filled day with games, drawing, dancing and singing competitions. Magic show, cartoon movies and other activities have also been planned. Isha Homes MD Suresh Krishna will conduct leadership training at the Chennai Middle School, Adyar.
