Mohammed Mujahid, a 20-year-old who hails from Sanjak village of Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) Muzaffarnagar district had never imagined that a person whom he trusted the most would deceptively get his genitals removed by making him undergo a sex change surgery at a local medical college. While speaking to News18, Mujahid and his family members shared the entire story of how a happy-go-lucky person, a student of class 12, fell prey to the man, who also allegedly sexually harassed him for more than two years.
On the complaint of Mujahid and his family members, Muzaffarnagar Police booked the middle-aged person, identified as Om Prakash and is probing the matter.
Mujahid said it all began almost two years back when he first met Om Prakash, the main accused in the case, at a local factory where Mujahid initially worked as a daily wage labourer. “Om Prakash ji was in-charge there. Quite often he used to help me out but I never thought that it was all a part of his plan,” said Mujahid.
However, after a couple of months, Mujahid said that he left the job and started working at a local beauty parlour to assist his father, a farmer by profession, to meet the family’s financial needs.
“Unlike the local factory where I used to get Rs 150 a day, at the beauty parlour I used to get almost Rs 450 a day, which also included tips from the customers. However, my friendship with Om Prakash continued,” Mujahid recalled.
The seemingly sweet friendship, however, turned out to be a strained one when one day, Om Prakash allegedly shot some nude videos of Mujahid and threatened to release them on the internet if he didn’t obey his orders. “Om Prakash used to call me to his rented accommodation where he used to harass me sexually. I didn’t have any option than to obey his orders as he had threatened to put my videos on the internet, also he threatened me that he would kill my father if I raised an alarm,” Mujahid said.
However, on June 3, things went to an extreme, when Mujahid said that Om Prakash called him to his accommodation, took away his mobile phone and other belongings and sedated him. “I woke up to the horrifying words of Om Prakash, who told me that I am a woman now and he would take me to Lucknow and would marry me. He also threatened that If I resisted, he would kill my father,” Mujahid told News18.
On waking up, Mujahid said that he realised that he was at Begrajpur Medical College, Mansoorpur, Muzaffarnagar, UP, he experienced a sharp pain in his abdomen and soon after he realised that his genital part was missing. “It took me some moments to realize what actually had happened to me. I didn’t even have my mobile phone, I took some hospital staff’s phone to call my parents and asked them to reach the hospital immediately,” said Mujahid, while accusing Om Prakash, doctors and the hospital staff of performing sex change surgery on him without his consent.
“Allah unhe kabhi maaf nahi karega (God will never forgive them). I want justice. I am hopeful that UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ji would help me and would make sure that the wrong doers get the strictest punishment,” lamented Mujahid.
Mujahid’s father Mohammed Yameen, who seemed shattered, further blamed Om Prakash and the team of doctors who performed the surgery. “On getting my son’s call, we immediately rushed to the hospital. Be it Om Prakash or the doctors, all are hand in gloves. I want action against Dr Farooqi, the main surgeon who performed the surgery. I want to ask the hospital management why they didn’t ask for the ID proof of my son and Om Prakash, who posed to be his father. On the basis of the IDs, they could have concluded the fact that they are not father-son,” Mujahid’s father Yameen told News18.
On Mujahid’s father’s complaint, the Muzaffarnagar Police registered an FIR at Mansurpur Police Station and arrested Om Prakash. “A case has been registered in which a person alleged that he was misled by another person and was made to undergo a sex change surgery. We have registered the case under sections 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 420 (cheating) and 377 (unnatural offence) of IPC. The further investigation is on,” said Ramashish Singh, Circle Officer of Khatauli Police Station in Muzaffarnagar.
Hospital Denies Mujahid’s Claim
However, hospital authorities denied Mujahid’s claim that he was deceptively operated on. According to Chief Medical Superintendent Kirti Goswami, the man had been regularly visiting the hospital for two months to meet Dr Raza Farooqui, a plastic surgeon. Goswami stated, “The man identified as a woman and wanted to undergo sex reassignment surgery.”
Dr Farooqui said he referred Mujahid to two psychiatrists to assess his mental condition, a legal prerequisite before a sex-change operation. The procedure was performed only after the psychiatrists deemed him mentally fit. “The man came here to get admitted on June 4 and his operation was conducted on June 6. All these procedures are legal and were conducted under the supervision of Dr Farooqui,” Goswami emphasised.
Additionally, Goswami claimed that the authorities had a video of the man before his operation, in which he could be seen discussing his desire to undergo gender change surgery. This video, according to Goswami, serves as evidence that Mujahid’s decision was informed and voluntary. The hospital’s stance highlights the legal and procedural adherence throughout the process, contrasting sharply with Mujahid’s allegations of deception.
