Lucknow: A cook of a Community Health Centre in UP’s Deoria district was caught on camera giving injections and attaching drips to patients.
As soon as the private cook of the CHC in Bhatni, Rama Shankar, tried to run away when he saw the ETV camera but later on he accepted that he was the private cook of the hospital and he had been doing this for some months.
Even the patients admitted at the hospitals were shocked to know that the person who was administering them injections was not even a trained employee but a cook instead.
Shankar was hired by the hospital as per the rules by the state health department to cook meals for the pregnant women admitted at the hospital.
But instead of cooking meals for the patients, Shankar was busy giving injections and putting drips to the patients. Also, no meals were apparently being given to the patients for years and the funds for it were being embezzled.
Soni, a patient admitted in the CHC, said, “I am buying my own meals, nobody from the hospital gave us any meals."
Moreover, just outside its gates, many illegal health centres were also found running without proper licence. Another untrained boy named Vidyasagar was found working in the Pathology Centre on the premises of the Health Centre. On being asked to show his degree, he ran away from the camera.
Taking cognizance of the issue, Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ram Niwas said that he will hold an inquiry of the entire incident and stern action will be taken on the people found guilty.
