BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to address the acute shortage of personnel in nursing and midwifery services across the State, the Government has finally moved to facilitate churning out of more number of trained workers in the field. The Government while increasing seats in nursing training, general nursing and midwifery (GNM) and auxiliary nursing and midwifery (ANM) training courses has also gone forward to create 107 more faculty positions in the institutions. Health Minister Prasanna Acharya on Monday said in view of the requirements, seats in the GNM streams in VSS Medical, Burla, and MKCG Medical, Berhampur, have been raised  from 50 to 100. Each college would also have 21 new faculty positions at the level of tutors to complement the increase in seats. Seats in BSc Nursing at MKCG have been increased from 40 to 60 along with 10 added posts in the level of Clinical Instructor for the purpose. The SCB would also get an additional 17 tutors for its GNM discipline. To give a boost to ANM activities by infusing more qualified manpower at the grassroots, posts for one principal nursing tutor, five tutors and allied staff have been created at the Subarnapur ANM Training Institute. Posts for one principal and 14 tutors have been created in Nabarangpur GNM Training Centre while Boudh ANM Training School has got one principal tutor and five tutors.
