The Kerala High Court on Monday sought the view of the state government on a petition seeking to cancel the bail granted to the eighteen accused in the Kuniyil twin murder case by the Manjeri Sessions Court.
Justice S S Satheesachandran issued the directive while considering a petition filed by Kolakkadan Abdul Najeeb, a relative of the victim, seeking to quash the order of the Sessions Court.
The police had filed the chargesheet against 19 accused in the case. Counsel for the petitioner S U Nazar submitted that P K Basheer MLA, who was named in the First Information Report as an accused in the case, has been excluded from the chargesheet.
The accused in the case are powerful and hence if they permitted to continue on bail, it will affect the case. The petitioner submitted that the Sessions Court passed the order without considering the gravity of the offence.
