THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the Assembly on Friday that the State Government would seek the assistance of the Central agencies for the investigation into the phone calls, allegedly made by the prisoners, from the Kannur prison, to the terrorist organisations abroad.Replying to an adjournment motion moved by Raju Abraham, the Chief Minister said that the Jail ADGP’s report stated that the jail inmates made several international phone calls from the prisons in the state.Informing about the report by jail ADGP Alexander Jacob, the Chief Minister said that around 3,000 to 3,500 calls were made from each phone since October, 2010. Many phone calls were made to 18-digit numbers. There were reports that the calls were made to foreign countries, including Pakistan, Afghanistan and Australia, among others.Chandy said that the jail authorities had seized 120 mobile phones during a raid recently and call details of 29 had been examined. He said that the State Government had directed the police to conduct raids on all the jails in every two weeks to keep a check on the situation. The ADGP had also recommended frequent raids to be conducted on all the jails to ensure that the prisoners do not use mobile phones.Replying to a question raised by the Opposition Leader, the Chief Minister said that the Central agencies could be RAW or NIA.
