The 65th Republic Day was celebrated with usual pomp and gaiety amidst tight security with Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi taking salute of an impressive parade in Lucknow on Sunday.
Contingents of Army, Police, Home Guards, NCC and school children, among others, participated in the parade in which the highlight was T-72 tank and anti-tank guided missile launcher, amidst others. On the occasion four policemen-- Late Govind Singh, Rajesh Kumar Verma, Rakesh Kumar and Satyendra Kumar were awarded President's police medal for gallantry by the Governor.
Six police officers- ADG Sutapa Sanyal, IG Ashish Gupta, IG Chandra Prakash, IG PV Ramaswamy, SP Syed Wasim Ahmad and Deputy SP Kamal Narain Pandey were awarded President's police medal for distinguished service. While police medal for meritorious service were given to 71 policemen Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was also present in the function.
