Greater Noida: Adventure sports on Saturday turned fatal at a Greater Noida mall as one man died after he fell from a height at a shopping mall in the national capital region. The man plunged to his death while rappelling down a glass wall during an adventure carnival held at a new mall in Greater Noida.
When he lost his balance, he fell down on the ground. There was no safety catch, not even a mattress to break his fall.
"I don't think the guy realised that rope was not all the way down to the ground. He fell down from there. He didn't realise that the rope had ended. The rope fell through and he landed on his hands," said an eyewitness.
In a separate incident, actress Sayali Bhagat was also injured at the same event, after her dirt bike overturned while performing a stunt.
The vehicle she was driving upturned. She was later identified as Sayali Bhagat. The matter is being investigated.
Some big questions are being asked about safety arrangements at the adventure sports event – Did the mall take permission from police before carrying out the stunts? Why was there no safety net for the stuntman? Why was there no ambulance or paramedics on the spot?
The mall is still incomplete and the two day carnival has now being called off.
Mall authorities have refused to speak on camera and they are not to be seen anywhere around.
