Jaipur: The Rajasthan government on Thursday succumbed to the pressure from Gujjar leaders and has assured them of new law to provide 5 per cent reservation in jobs under Special Backward Class outside the 50 per cent quota. The state government and Gujjar leaders agreed on eight points after rounds of discussion.
Rajasthan Minister Rajendra Rathore said Gujjars have agreed to end their protest. The agitation by Gujjar community has hit traffic on the Delhi-Mumbai rail route and Jaipur-Agra national highway. The agitators have been blocking rail tracks and roads in three districts for a week.
The Rajasthan government will table the Bill regarding 5 per cent reservation in jobs under SBC in the upcoming Assembly session. The Bill will be then sent to Centre to incorporate in the 9th schedule of Constitution.
Gujjar leader Himmat Singh said, "The government will bring new law for 5 per cent quota to Gujjars outside 50 per cent cap. The draft law is being given final touches."
The three ministerial committee have convinced the Gujjar leadership to accept their proposal.
Gujjar leader Colonel Kirori Singh Bainsla said apologied for all convenience caused due to the agitation.
Meanwhile, 4,500 paramilitary personnel were rushed to assist the state government in handling the ongoing agitation. While some of the security personnel have already reached Rajasthan, the rest will be arriving in batches, a Home Ministry official said.
The paramilitary personnel, drawn mostly from CRPF and BSF, are being sent from different parts of the country.
