THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The Gyanvani FM Radio of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in Thiruvananthapuram is planning a major revamp marking its first birthday on July 1. In the days ahead, the FM radio will lay more thrust on the State’s education sector. In addition to this, documentaries on institutions in the State’s education, cultural and development sectors from the Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) will be included in the menu, station director A Prabhakaran said. The radio, launched under the aegis of IGNOU, has become quite popular in its first year of operations. Received on 105.6 mega hertz from 6 am to 10 am and from 6 pm to 10 pm, it aims at opening up a new world of knowledge to the students. Popular programmes include ‘PSC Winner’ broadcast at 8.30 am and 8.30 pm, the programme on education at 6.30 am and 6.30 pm, ‘Ambathonnaksharali,’ a course on Malayalam language, and a German tutorial course. Gyanvani is also planning a cultural programme to celebrate the first birthday, Prabhakaran said.
