DAVANGERE: Summer rain with hail stones, thunder storm and gales in Davangere and Jagalur taluk on Thursday night damaged plantain, coconut and areca plantations and 18 houses, including stocked food grains, all worth `1.70 crore.Deputy Commissioner Subhash Pattanshetty told Express that the storm destroyed  standing banana crop in more than 100 hectares at Chikkanagthihalli, Hemmanabethur and Dymenahalli villages in Davangere district. Roofs of many houses were blown away.The rains that started in Davangere city spread to Jagalur taluk and lashed for two hours, causing great loss to farmers who had expected a bumper crop.In Davangere taluk, side walls of seven houses collapsed, and food grain stock in three houses were damaged in Jagalur taluk, Pattanshetty said. The administration will take steps to distribute relief funds as per guidelines to farmers who suffered loss, on Saturday.
