THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday granted one more week for the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation to complete the treatment of solid waste accumulated at the Vilappilsala plant.  A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice V Chidambaresh granted the additional period after the Corporation submitted that at present, only the accumulated waste is being treated owing to the protest by the local people. The Corporation further submitted that opening of the lock on the gate was delayed by a week, so waste treatment too got delayed. The local body also submitted that its trucks carrying waste were not allowed to enter the plant, which is in Vilappil Panchayat.  However, the Vilappil Panchayat submitted that the plant is not operational, owing to which the waste is dumped into the soil. Considering the submissions, the Court observed that it may consider sending the Advocate Commissioner once more for inspections. The Court posted the case after two weeks. The Court had earlier directed the Director General of Police to provide adequate police protection for operating the plant. The Corporation had also announced that the collection of wastes from households would resume on February 13.
