HYDERABAD: The AP State Legal Services Authority has decided to come forward to address discrimination and violation of rights of vulnerable communities of transgenders, sex workers, people with HIV/AIDS, gays and lesbians.“We will work towards providing special rights for them and also literature for creating awareness in the society,” said K Narasimha Chary, administrative officer, APSLSA. Speaking on Saturday at an interaction with LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgenders) communities conducted by the Centre for Advocacy and Research, he said, “If people from these communities come forward for reservations in government sectors and equal rights, APSLSA will try to put their petitions in the High Court.”In reply to questions, Narasimha Chary said, “The APSLA will help the communities in redress for problems of discrimination or violation of human rights. They can approach district and mandal level offices for problems at the local level. If their problems are not addressed there, they can also contact state-level administrative officers of APSLSA.” He added that only by creating awareness and conducting discourses about the LGBT community can the inhuman behaviour against them be stopped. Chary said that if people living with HIV/AIDS are thrown out of their houses, the APSLA would help in providing legal help to the person to recover their assets.
