New Delhi: Today's Google doodle marks the 129th birth anniversary of Hermann Rorschach, the Swiss psychiatrist who devised the Rorschach inkblot test that bears his name. This test is used clinically for diagnosing psychopathology. Here are 10 things that you didn't know about Hermann Rorschach and his creation.

1. Because of Hermann Rorschach's love for sketching while at school he was nicknamed Kleck which means inkblot.

2. Inkblot test is a psychological/personality test in which a person is asked to interpret ambiguous patterns made by inkblots, and out of different inkblot tests available, the Rorschach test is considered to be the best inkblot test.

3. Inspired by the work of another Swiss psychiatrist Szyman Hens, Rorschach, in 1918, began his experiments with 15 accidental inkblots. He showed the blots and asked them what it might be? Depending on their responses he got some cues that according to him could bring to light deeper personality traits.

4. Born on November 8, 1884, Hermann Rorschach has been described as a disciplined and studious student who completed his studies with top marks in all disciplines.

5. When the high school graduation approached, Hermann was confused and couldn't choose between a career in art and science. He then wrote a letter to the widely popular German biologist Ernst Haeckel asking his advice.

6. In 1921 Hermann Rorschach wrote his book Psychodiagnostik. In his book, he published the results of his studies on 300 mental patients and 100 others in Psychodiagnostik.

7. At one point of time he bought a monkey and kept it to observe the reactions of his patients to it.

8. It is said that Hermann Rorschach was somewhat reserved, but he was cordial with those who were close to him.

9. In the 1960s, Hermann Rorschach's inkblot test was the most widely used projective test in the US.

10. One year after writing his book, Hermann Rorschach died of peritonitis. Rorschach died at the young age of 37 on April 1, 1922.
