CHENNAI: Lt Gen R K Swamy (retd) was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal on the eve of Republic Day as recognition for his distinguished service stretching over 41 years. According to a release from the Defence Ministry, Lt Gen RK Swamy was commissioned into MAHAR Regt on December 1971. As a young officer, Swamy was baptised in fire during the 1971 Indo Pak War. An authority on Counter Insurgency, he had a distinguished record of commanding a Force and a Corps in active insurgency environment in Jammu and Kashmir. General Swamy retired at the fall of last year from Southern Command where he was holding the sensitive appointment of Chief of Staff, at a time when a Southern Army had under taken one of the biggest exercises in recent times.
