CHENNAI: Get ready to hit the pedal for a cause.The annual mega cycling rally, BSA Hercules Chennai Cycling 2012, is back in the city. Keep yourself free on Feburary 26 (Sunday) to pedal your way for a green cause and of course towards a healthy way of living.The event will have a professional leg with the top cyclists in India. The amateur leg will see nearly 5,000 cyclists from all walks of life participating to show their support for various causes.This rally is aimed at creating awareness amongst the public about healthy living, sport and sustainable means of transport.The event is organised by CRX Sports, a sports event management company, and the title sponsor is TI Cycles of the Murugappa Group in support of the various humanitarian activities carried out by the United Way of Chennai.The venue of the rally is Kamarajar Salai and Sivananada Salai and they have different categories for both professional and amateur. For example, the CXO Ride and the Celebrity Lap is just for a distance of 4 kms.Speaking at a meet on Tuesday, L Ramkumar, Managing Director, TII, Murugappa Group, said, "Our objective is to build India’s largest cycling and green movement’. Apart from promoting healthy living and green transport, our other mission is to show support to United Way of Chennai in their endeavors to help the under privileged/physically challenged” MA Alagappan, Chairman – United Way of Chennai said, “This message is an universal call, which I believe will resonate well with the citizens of Chennai.This platform would go a long way in increasing awareness about United Way’s projects among the general public.” Lakshmi Narayanan, founding member of United Way of Chennai and Vice Chairman of Cognizant, said, “United Way Chennai is grateful to the many senior executives in Chennai who have enrolled for the CXO Ride on February 26. On behalf of CRX Sports and United Way, I would request all officers in Chennai to participate in the event thereby making a difference to the lives of underprivileged.”
