Howrah-Mumbai Train Accident: Bengal Mother, Son Recall How They Survived
Utpal, a professional electric car driver, was taking his mother to Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai as she was suffering from terminal cancer.

Two individuals were killed and 20 others were injured after close to 18 coaches of a train slated for Mumbai derailed near Chakradharpur in Jharkhand. According to Local18 Bengal, Utpal Sarkar, a native of Gangnapur, a town in West Bengal and his mother were also injured in this accident.

Utpal, a professional electric car driver, was taking his mother to Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai as she is suffering from terminal cancer. They started commuting to the destination on July 29 by Train number 12810, Howrah-Mumbai Mail.

According to the Utpal, 18 coaches of the train derailed near Chakradharpur in Jharkhand on July 30 morning. He said that in the wee hours of the morning, everyone was asleep and they could not feel anything. He said that the carriage came to a screeching halt in the morning. the Gangnapur-based electric car driver said that his elderly mother fell from her seat and hit her face. He was also slightly injured. He and his mother were helped to get out of the train and receive first-aid treatment from the railway management. They then left for Mumbai by special train.

Currently, it is reported that many passengers have been injured in the train accident. The victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. RPS and local police administration along with the National Disaster Response Force reached the spot after receiving the information. The National Disaster Response Force is a specialised force constituted by the Government of India for disaster response. It is manned by personnel from all three wings of the Indian Armed Forces.

Some were lucky to be saved in the accident including a couple from West Bengal named Shyamaprasad Halder and Anjana Halder. The couple shared with Local 18 West Bengal how they luckily escaped the train derailment. Shyamaprasad recalled that at 03:30 AM, the train cabin was tilted with a sudden jolt and loud noise. As per him, when he and his wife were in the B-2 room, a total of 18 rooms at the rear end of the train derailed.
