HYDERABAD: For the very first time in India, the search for the first Karaoke World Champion (KWC) has begun and India will debut as one of the forty participating countries in the prestigious, international karaoke event- McDowell’s Karaoke World Championship Indian Trials, in association with VH1, as the Indian chapter.The finals for the Karaoke World Championship (KWC) India trial 2011 took place on August 6 in Mumbai with Hyderabad’s very own Clarence D’souza and Megha Girish winning the top male and female vocalist. The KWC is having trials all over the world, with over 30 countries participating. Each country will send in two finalists - one male and one female vocalist - for the finals that are being held in Killarney, Ireland from September 8 to 10 to compete for the title of World Karaoke Champion. The finalists are being sponsored for the trip to Ireland, including travel and stay at Killarney. However, due to passport problems, Clarence D’souza will not be able to make it to the finals. Hence, the next best male vocalist, Kamran Khurshid from Kolkata will be going to the finals along with Megha Girish.The KWC India trials were held in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Goa, Kolkata and Ludhiana. Winners of the city trials qualified for the zonal finals and three zonal finalists from each zone comprised the 12 grand finalists who competed for the McDowell No 1 KWC India grand finale which took place on August 6. The Karaoke World Championships are conducted annually every September, drawing participation globally to battle for the world championship title. India’s first champion will meet singers from around the world who love karaoke and experience the trip of a lifetime during the exciting three day world finals in Ireland from September 8 - 10. Karaoke is a form of interactive entertainment or video game in which amateur singers sing along with recorded music using a microphone and public address system.
