BHUBANESWAR: The fledgling first batch of Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (IIT) has drwan the big wigs of Indian Inc. as well as MNCs even as the first batch is yet to pass out in 2012. Top companies like Tata Motors, Altair Engineering, Tata Consulting Engineers, Deloitte, Infosys, Flipkart and Caterpillar have already participated in the placement drive. Ideally top companies do not recruit from institutes whose two batches have not passed out of the institute. But the students of IIT Bhubaneswar have performed really well with 31 students out of the 94 students already being placed in the initial weeks of the recruitment. “One fourth of the total student strength is already placed and we are sure we will witness a 100 percent placement,” said the registrar of IIT Bhubaneswar BK Ray. The management had set a benchmark for the companies. They did not allow any company that was offering anything below ` 5 lakhs per annum. They were very specific about this, but the companies also did not have any qualms about offering more than the suggested amount. With the highest package being offered till now being ` 7.2 lakhs per annum by the company Caterpillar. The packages that are offered are just expected to increase as more and more companies start coming in. The placements usually start after the seventh semester. This has been to make sure the academics of the students does not get hampered. It will continue till 15 days before the start of the eighth semester, that is the first week of January.
