New Delhi: Reinforcing the "credibility" of CBI tops the agenda of the government as the country looks up to the agency with great faith and hope, Personnel Department Minister Jitendra Singh said here today.
Singh, who is also Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, said every institution, including CBI, has to live upto the expectations of people.
Interacting with media personnel at the CBI headquaters here, the minister said his visit to the agency headquarters was to understand each other's problems and how the functioning of important institutions like CBI can be
improved.
Asked about the immediate challenges faced by the agency, the minister said "to put it in a single sentence: to reinforce the credibility of every institution, including CBI, and to rise to the expectations of the people at large."
The minister did not give any specific response to the question of what are the steps that he would take to "reinforce" the credibility of the agency.
The Minister made it clear that the word 'reinforce' should not be misconstrued as that "anything is lacking" in the agency.
To a question on delays in granting sanction for prosecution by DoPT against senior officers, he said delay may occur by default but never by design.
Responding to a query seeking developments on the hot pursuit of absconding terrorist finding refuge in a neighbouring country, he said work is going on but CBI does not work in isolation.
