CHENNAI: Nine days after the immovable asset data of IAS officers was made public, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) did an encore for IPS officers. But if you were to scan the MHA website for information on Indian Police Service officers of the Tamil Nadu cadre, you would be disappointed. For, the MHA website has data on just two of them — Braj Kishore Ravi (1989 batch) and Sumit Sharan (1997). Both hail from Bihar. In all, the MHA list has 203 officers on the list, some of whom, including R Nataraj and G Thilakavathi, have since retired. When contacted, senior police officials asserted that they had filed their immovable property returns to the concerned authority since that was mandatory. They had no idea why the data was not available on the MHA site. There were some glitches and typos too. For example, the link for the immovable property of Braj Kishore Ravi failed to work. Besides, the site claims that E Selvi Hema Piramila belongs to the 9999 cadre. Top officers here hoped that the technical glitches would be ironed out soon. In all, the list contains 3,243 entries for the whole country, although data on over 50 per cent of them is unavailable. Data on Delhi Police suggests that almost all officers own more than one piece of land or building, most of which were purchased and not inherited.Delhi Police Commissioner B K Gupta owns two flats in the Capital though one of the Special Commissioners, Ranjit Narayan, does not own any immovable property. Gupta’s statement is for the year 2000 while others have filed their statements for 2010.
