Samajwadi Party on Saturday nominated former MLA Imran Masood as the party's candidate from Saharanpur Lok Sabha seat, five days after he returned to the partyfold.
Imran's candidature was announced by the party in Delhi, sources said in Saharanpur.
Imran and his uncle, former union minister Rasheed Masood, were with the SP till before 2012 Assembly elections in UP, when they defected to Congress.
Imran was given the Congress ticket from Nakud constituency, but lost the elections.
In March, Imran severed ties with Congress, leading to speculation about his return to SP.
The announcement of Masood's candidature is a setback for Feroz Aftab, who was earlier announced as the party's Lok Sabha candidate from Saharanpur.
