Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who landed in Srinagar on Thursday to unveil a slew of development projects, paid his respects to the “majestic Shankaracharya Hill” with folded hands.
“Upon reaching Srinagar a short while ago, had the opportunity to see the majestic Shankaracharya Hill from a distance,” the prime minister wrote on X (formerly Twitter), while posting his pictures.
The Shankaracharya temple in Srinagar is situated on atop the picturesque Zabarwan hills. The ‘mandir’ is dedicated to the legendary Vedic scholar Adi Shankara, who lived in the eighth century.
In April every year, the temple overlooking the stunning Dal Lake teems with spiritual leaders, saints, and people from all walks of life who came to pay homage to the great philosopher and thinker.
Recently, the devotees celebrated the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of the Ram Lalla idol at the grand Ayodhya Ram Mandir at this Kashmir temple. Thousands thronged the iconic Shankaracharya Temple where a special puja was held to mark the occasion.

“We waited 500 years for this day. The Supreme Court took a decision based on archaeological evidence that a grand Ram Temple should come up on the ruins of the Babri mosque, at His birthplace. This is a day of celebration for us all. Shri Ram-ji transcends all geographical boundaries. He belongs to everyone,” said the head priest of the ancient Raghunath Temple in Srinagar’s Barbarshah locality.
