In the village of Peddapur, located in the Sadashivapet mandal of Telangana’s Sangareddy district, farmers are achieving remarkable success with their cotton crops by using bio-fertilisers. These farmers have found that using bio-fertilisers helps their cotton crops grow healthier and yield more, all without the need for harmful chemical pesticides. As a result, their cotton crops are thriving, with lush green growth and vibrant green coating.
Farmers from various parts of the region, including Vikarabad, Shankar Palli, Zaheerabad, and Pedda Sankarampet, are travelling long distances to Peddapur to purchase these bio-fertilisers. The demand for these natural products is high, as more and more farmers are recognising the benefits of using bio-based methods for cotton cultivation.
One of the key advantages of these bio-fertilisers is that they are made from natural oils. Farmers mix these bio-fertilisers with cooking oils, such as Gold Drop or Freedom, and then spray the mixture on their cotton crops. This method has proven to be highly effective, as the crops grow strong and healthy. Last year, many farmers in the region used these bio-fertilisers and reported excellent yields. Encouraged by these results, they are continuing to use bio-fertilisers this year as well.
A farmer from Zaheerabad shared his experience, saying that he started using bio-fertilisers about 15 days ago and has already seen significant improvements in the growth and development of his cotton plants. He noted that the crops are doing exceptionally well, and he is optimistic about the upcoming harvest.
According to a report from Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, the area under cotton cultivation in Telangana during the 2022-23 season was 50,00,724 acres, up from 46,68,057 acres in the previous year. Among the districts, Nalgonda led the way with 6,47,005 acres of cotton fields, followed by Adilabad, Sangareddy, Nagarkurnool, and Asifabad.
The success of bio-fertilisers in Peddapur is a promising development for cotton farmers in the region. As more farmers embrace these natural methods, the future of cotton cultivation in Telangana looks bright, with higher yields and healthier crops.
