A wildlife rescuer named Pavan Naik has rescued a king cobra measuring over 12 feet at Yelvalli village in Kumta taluk in Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka. According to Local18 Kannada, Ganesh Bhat spotted this large serpent in his kitchen at 6 AM.
Ganesh went into the kitchen to light a stove and prepare his morning tea when he saw something coiled around it. The Yelvalli village resident did not take much time to realise that it was a snake. Ganesh stepped back and immediately called the snake rescuer Pavan. Pavan captured the serpent and released it back into the forest. One of the most prominent camerapersons named Gopi Joli filmed this entire operation.
The Local18 video shows how the snake rescuer Pavan courageously caught the King Cobra with the help of a tool. There was no light in the kitchen so he wore a headlamp that helped him track the serpent’s movements. Pavan initially controlled the snake’s tail and then tried to aim for the reptile’s head. The king cobra tried to hide behind the utensils and even bite Pavan, making the task highly challenging for him. However, with his skill, Pavan managed to catch it and then made it enter a sack.
After some time, the snake managed to get out of the sack and pounced on the snake catcher’s feet. He, however, was alert to this and managed to escape the attack in time. He again caught the snake with his tool and after a great tussle, managed to leave the serpent in a dense forest.
Ashok Naik, a villager talked more about this operation in an interview with The New Indian Express. He said,” “Initially, we thought it was a rat snake. But Bhat got a shock when the coiled snake immediately responded with a hiss and its hood opened when he tried to drive it away by shaking it off. It did not take much time to realise that it was a king cobra. Bhat stepped back and we called snake rescuer Pavan Naik.” As reported in The New Indian Express, Pavan had managed to reach the spot quickly and completed the entire rescue operation in an hour.
