In order to fortify security long porous open Indo-Nepal border, India has created five new border posts and deployed additional troops along the frontier notorious for illegal crossing over of terrorists, criminals and smuggling of arms.
The 1,751-km Indo-Nepal border has been in the news recently for the arrest of a number of wanted terrorists by security agencies like Liyaqat Shah, Abdul Karim Tunda and Yasin Bhatkal.
The proposal to increase the border posts had been in the pipeline for sometime and the decision on it has been prompted by the July 7 bombings in Bodh Gaya in Bihar, sources said.
"A fresh contingent of armed paramilitary personnel drawn from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) have been deployed at these new posts. The exercise had been done recently," the sources said.
SSB has been mandated as the lead border guarding and intelligence gathering agency for this area.
With the creation of these posts, India now has a total of 455 border posts along the Nepal border.
The border posts have been equipped with surveillance gadgets and other equipments.
