Indian mission trashes rented house
The members of the Indian mission in Switzerland rented a plush penthouse in Geneva which is now unrecognisable.

Switzerland: Its not just rockstars who wreck their hotel rooms. The Indian mission in Switzerland has been accused of trashing its quarters.

The members of the Indian mission in Switzerland rented a plush penthouse in Geneva from 2002 to 2005. The fully furnished apartment, filled with carpets and exquisite paintings, came at a hefty Rs 8.5 lakhs a month.

The landlady, Lilian Kruger, however says that her apartment is now unrecognisable.

She says when the mission left, it took the furniture with it, leaving behind only garbage and that they still have to pay her Rs 90 lakhs.

She also wants her house restored to its original state and has filed a case against the mission.

The case is due in court hearing on August 13.

The Ministry of External Affairs however has refuted the allegations.

A spokesperson of the ministry said, "The allegations that the permises have been stripped of rare carpets, paintings and other items is simply not true. The claim made on behalf of the landlady itself talks only of stains on curtains, breakage to some minor decorative items and plumbing. Everything else has been exaggerated."
