THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Technopark, one of the largest IT parks in the country, lacks a major security cover. Porous boundaries, erring security men and the lack of a proper surveillance system have been giving enough trouble to the authorities. However, things are changing now. As part of ensuring foolproof security, Technopark will soon get barbed boundaries and a proper video surveillance system. The general body meeting of Technopark held recently has decided to strengthen the security system and to release fund for the same. Technopark CEO K G Gireesh Babu said one of his priorities when taking charge was to ensure foolproof security at Technopark. “The concept of SEZ was not there while commissioning the phase I of Technopark. So unlike the SEZ, there are no enclosed boundaries. Cases like theft were reported several times. Recently, three men in an inebriated condition entered the campus during a programme organised by UST Global. So, we have decided to mark the boundaries using barbed wires. Once the boundaries are safe, the only need is to strengthen the gates,” he said. When asked about the complaints being raised against the security men within the campus, he said general intelligence too will be strengthened. “Now, buses can enter the campus. It will be an unfriendly move if we block the service into the campus. So, security systems at the entry of each building will be enhanced,” he said. Technopark authorities have invited tenders for installing a video surveillance system. “Video surveillance systems will be installed at major locations as the second phase of beefing up the security. Companies which win the bid will study the areas to install cameras,” Gireesh Babu said. Express had reported about the series of thefts occurring in Technopark. Looting of petrol, helmets and bikes is common. Though there is checking at the gates, miscreants can reach the campus through several other routes. Spread over 300 acres, and with about 4.5 million square feet of built-up space, Technopark hosts over 225 IT and ITES companies.
