HYDERABAD: The pincer moves inched closer to Jagan Mohan Reddy Monday with the CBI court issuing a summons to him and the other accused in the illegal assets case on May 28, a fortnight prior to 18 crucial byelections in the state. This followed the court taking cognizance of the agency’s first chargesheet against the MP, filed on March 31. Among the other accused issued a summons is IAS officer B P Acharya.Once the court takes a chargesheet into cognizance, the trial into the charges framed against the accused by the investigation agency will commence. The accused would be given copies of the chargesheet and informed about the charges framed against them.In its first chargesheet the CBI had named Jagan Mohan Reddy as accused no 1. His financial adviser V Vijaya Sai Reddy, the only person arrested in the case so far, is accused no 2. Vijay Sai was recently granted bail by the court. He appeared in court Monday and will have to do so again on May 28. In the chargesheet, the CBI had said that M/s Aurobindo Group of Companies, M/s Hetero Group of Companies and M/s Trident Life Sciences Limited were given benefits as part of a criminal conspiracy to receive quid pro quo investments in Jagan-owned firms. The court asked the accused to appear before it at 10 am on May 28. The CBI was entrusted with ensureing their appearance.According to sources in Jagan Mohan Reddy’s camp, the summons were issued a couple of days back and it is likely that the MP will appear personally in court.
