BHUBANESWAR: Former Union minister and Odisha in-charge of the Congress Jagdish Tytler on Saturday warned that indiscipline will not be tolerated in the party and those indulging in it spared.Nobody is above the party, Tytler told mediapersons after an emergency meeting of the State office-bearers and district presidents here at the Congress Bhavan. The meeting was convened to find reasons behind the growing dissident movement in the party and address that. Addressing the partymen at the meeting, Tytler asked them to air their grievances in the party forum and not outside. When leaders fight in the open, it benefits Naveen Patnaik at the cost of the Congress, he said.Sources, however, maintained that moves had been initiated for a rapprochement between the two factions.During the visit of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to the State in the first week of this month, three party legislators led by former working president Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra had met him and discussed organisational matters, including a change in the State leadership. Another group of MLAs had also met Central leaders in New Delhi in April demanding a change in leadership.Tytler, however, said there would be no change in the leadership as demanded by the dissidents. Five presidents have been changed because of demands from the dissidents and now there would be no change. The Odisha in-charge had issued warning letters to the three MLAs __ Surendra Singhbhoi, Shyam Charan Hansdah and Dushmanta Nayak __ for demanding change in the leadership publicly. The former Union minister said he would ask the Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh to convene a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) to discuss the issue. Stating that the dissident movement will have no impact on the fortunes of the party, Tytler said a massive exercise had been started for its revival and strengthening of the organisation. He said organisational activities would be started from the booth level henceforth. Tytler said the reasons behind the party’s debacle in the panchayat polls were being assessed and corrective steps would be taken. Agitational programmes would be taken up against the Naveen Government and all leaders from the block level have to participate. He said selection of wrong candidates coupled with money and muscle power of the BJD were the main reasons behind the party’s poor show in the panchayat polls. District and local leaders were not consulted during distribution of party tickets, he said.
